‘Everest Tourism Award’ at a press meet at the highest altitude

Lukla – The first edition of ‘Everest Tourism Award, 2024’ will be organized with the slogan ‘Save Himal for sustainable tourism’.
At a press conference held today at Kalapatthar (5,653 meters high) in the lap of the highest peak Everest, the organizer AMS Music and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. Chairman Satyakala Tamang Lama informed that the award program will be held in Kathmandu in December.
He said that honors and awards will be distributed to various individuals and organizations in the national and international sectors who have contributed significantly to the development, propagation and promotion of the country’s tourism sector. According to him, awards will be given in a total of 40 to 50 categories.
President Lama informed that there will be performances by national and international artists in the award program. According to him, an evaluation and selection committee consisting of relevant experts has been formed to distribute the awards.
He informed that a press conference was organized in Kalapathar to draw the attention of the world community to this issue as the climate change has been affecting the Himalayan region for the last few years and it is also affecting the tourism sector.
“This is probably the first press conference held at an altitude of five thousand six hundred and fifty-three meters, from here we expect to explain the situation of climate change to the world”, said President Lama.

The managing director of the company, Phurba Gyalbo Moktan (Thupten), mentioned that the Himalayan region has been affected the most by climate change and emphasized that there should be no delay in saving the mountains.
“Climatic change is having a big impact, especially in the tourism sector of the country, the snow has started disappearing from the mountains, the white mountains have started turning into black mountains. If this area cannot be saved, the tourism sector cannot be saved, we want to convey this message to the world community through the press conference held here today”, he said.
Managing Director Moktan mentioned that due to the effects of climate change, the glaciers that have been frozen for centuries have started to break, more and less rains have started, and natural disasters such as floods and landslides are on the rise.
Namgel Sherpa, Lukla’s tourism businessman, philanthropist and central president of Star Youth Club and philanthropist Namgel Sherpa said that this area is the most affected by climate change. He said, “In October of last year, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres promised to come to this region and draw the world’s attention to the effects of climate change.” This year, we Khumbuwasi have raised our voice about it.”
At the press conference, climber Mingma Tenji Sherpa stated that he has been working in the mountains for 17 years and mentioned that climate change is beginning to affect the Himalayan region.
“When I started working in 2007 and now, you can see a lot of difference. Weather has become unstable due to climate change. Some time ago, there was a big disaster in Thame of Khumbu region. Earlier, they used to climb on snow, but now they have to climb on rocks and mud. Therefore, it is important to get the attention of the world community to protect the mountains and minimize the effects of climate change”, he said.
It was informed in the press conference held today that AMS Music and Entertainment is going to organize the award in collaboration with senior tourism businessman Mingma Dorjee Sherpa and tourism businessman and mountaineer Mingma Sherpa. So far, the company has been holding various programs in the country and abroad. So far, the company has held programs in Japan, Maldives and Dubai.
