The number of coronavirus cases in Africa has risen by 40 per cent in just 10 days, with a major outbreak expected.
More than 30,000 cases have been confirmed across the continent following a slow spread earlier in the year.
The death toll has increased to just over 1,400, which has worried specalists.
It is hoped aggressive screening and testing strategies will help slow the spread of Covid-19.
But the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned there could be 10 million cases on the continent within three to six months.
Last week, Executive director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme, Dr Mike Ryan, warned: “We are at the beginning in Africa.”
